Its always fulfilling to have a satisfying recording sessions. And Finally, its a wrap for "Sudden Twist". I had Jimmy on Tenor sax in the studios today to fill in with some legendary tone and sound of his, Thanks mate!
Time to get down to rehearsals and refining each of our lines.....& As excited as i am, You would soon be able to listen or see "Sudden Twist" LIVE!=)

"Sudden Twist"- The Making 3@ The Factory- Horns & Guitars

Had an amazingly productive day in The Factory Music studios today. Laid down the Horns section with trumpeter,Eddie Wen and well, nothing sounds better then Real Brass=)As each session goes by, i cant wait to perform and showcase this song soon because this is the first time, I'm recording a song in The Factory LIVE with no use of Midi instruments. In the process of recording the Brass, we did layering which is basically a process of having the same instruments to play different parts, harmony and then putting them together sounding like one.

My mate, Yuri too lay down his solos and rhythm with his electric guitar providing "Sudden Twist" a fuller sounding.
2 more sessions to go and we are all ready to Rock!=)

Recording of "You Gotta Know" feat. Liang

I have always love working with new ppl, especially new sounds, tone, voices that i come across and admired, and in some ways influence my music. Liang is one of them...probably Malaysia's only English speaking chinese RnB singer of its kind.. and with a unique voice he has, it was a blessing to have his inclusion on the album- DiversiFy.

"You Gotta Know" was the first song I worked with Yuri, who is a great producer friend of mine whom u can see him in my previous post of the production of my album....and it has been almost half a year since. We have been making music without fail almost every week, this is what i call sheer dedication to music and i absolutely admire the fact that we can both come together each week..be it, right after a project to discuss and plan for our next song. Since then, we have both complete a couple of tracks, rehearsed for shows, toured to Singapore, attended events, etc and of cos in the year 2009, we intend to bring "Our" music to a whole new level, a whole new horizon....

To me, each song written has its concept, i believe one need a story to project what's on your mind to your listeners. Just like a director or an author who wants to reach out their work to their audiences and readers. The trick lies in the ensemble of it. In music, we call it music arrangement. So, "You Gotta Know" was initially written for both Yuri & Me, like a Guitar & Violin Duet together with some accappela voices to go along. I called this genre "Acoustic Hip Hop" because besides the elements above, we do have some Hip Hop beats to go along. Therefore, after listening for sometime, both of us mutually agree to have a pure RnB Singer- Liang to add his flavour into this piece.

Honestly, I would need sometime to get used to the final mix of the song, but no doubt its good. With the added flavor and element, it surely depicts the true colors of "DiversiFy", the album.

However, more is Not necessarily good, right?=)

DiversiFy- Day 4 (Vocals Part 1)

Vocals is definitely Not what i'm made for but playing the violin is like expressing my voice through it and it makes me happy no doubt.
However, for this track- DiversiFy, its gonna be Full of Diversification elements, Hip Hop, Old School Funk, Strings arrangements, Jazz, Vocals and of course my violin in it...imagine it, but no Sneak Preview till the launch....i hope!
Thats if im able to keep my excitement till then....haha
Anyway, recording session with my mate, Yuri Wong went well as planned and we recorded the first verse..experimenting on different effects and sounds striving to make this DiversiFy really/ extremely DiversiFied!=)

DiversiFy- First Draft

Once again, back in the studios again, doing what i love most- recording=)
Anyway, to update y'all a lil, im working on my last song before the entire Post Production take place(mixing and mastering) of the album titled- DiversiFy. I would say this song would comprise almost every aspect and element of the whole album as i was thinking recently, i need a song which could project the "Theme" of the album very much....

and thinking about that, one thing lead to another and wallah, we have a brand new track yet again! I realized i mentioned "MAHKOTA" would be my last track in my earlier post but the itch of writing and experimenting new material just cant be help!=)

Despite our busy schedules off performing for me, and as for Yuri, being a prolific producer/ engineer in the studio..we still enjoyed taking time off in creating new/ original sounds and beats as we both shared the same passion- MUSIC!
Here's something we have been working on and is still in the process- "Cooking Up A Storm" which we actually came up the "Hook" of the song in an interview 2 months back in TELL Mag Studios. Our article is featured in last month's Tell Mag....Thanks to Adam Lee frm TELL, Cheers Mate!

"You Gotta Know"- 2nd Draft@ The Factory Music

-"Acoustic Hip Hop" is the Genre, "You Gotta Know" is the title-
Recording this morning at 9am is indeed my earliest ever but though having just 4 hours of sleep the night before certainly did NOT stop me frm making this original composition of mine possible. Probably i would say the Last song of the album simultaneously in the process with the other track: Track 9=)
As you all have possibly read before in my previous post, im collaborating with Yuri Wong of The Factory Music in producing this entirely new shit. Imagine Acoustic/ Accapella music together with Hip Hop beats & Jazz liness (My fav, woohoo!)...also along with the acoustic instruments itself: Violin & Guitar exchanging parts. Speaking for itself basically! yeah!
Anyway, Thanks Yuri for that wonderful collaboration earlier this morning. Lets finish up the song soon and the preview of it shall be planned *winks*
It was indeed productive!

You Gotta Know- Day 2

Alright dear readers,
im pretty excited about my next song- You Gotta Know.
and this is day 2 in the Factory Studios by Maestro Producer and guitarist Yuri Wong=)
the concept of this song ( which i would not revealed much) would be more of an "acoustic hip hop" which i call it..pretty interesting as i start exploring the different sounds of acoustic instruments like the classical guitar & violin blending in with hip hop beats AND accapella voices..=)
and today we basically got the structure of it...after minutes of brainstorming.
As you all could probably see on my Upcoming shows schedule on the right hand side of the blog, i would be performing in Bangkok Jazz, Chulan Square comin Oct 31st & Nov 1st!..so well, if you're in town and wanna get lucky, this "You Gotta Know" might be the premier of it!
so stay tuned ya....haha

"You Gotta Know"- The Making 1

"You Gotta know" that im currently working on a new track and to my amazement, i actually came out with the title before starting recording or composing the track!haha..well, normally for my other songs, i cant even think of the title even after i record it sometimes, because the focus is more on the melody itself...
Anyway, yea..the title is "You Gotta Know"...

For those who are wondering where's my other charity song "Kindness"..well, dont worry, im still in the process of recording it and it would probably the last song i would put my focus on since now, most of my time is spend composing more new tracks, performing, and also in discussion for the music video/ short film i hope to shoot sometime late this year, and of cos in New York too!

Since the burden has lessen on my shoulders tremendously with my new PA/ Right Hand Lady of Mosaic Music Entertainment, i could now focus on the marketing and the making of my music. Going back to the studios recently was just a breathe of fresh air for me, Love it!=) You know why? cos in the studio,, aint no musician need to dress up! I sometimes just wake up, and put my glasses on and just go in the studio....no one caress..=)

Today, it was indeed a pleasure to meet up Yuri, a producer/ guitarist of The Factory Music Studio in Mont Kiara, who is a good friend of mine and i shared to him the new song "You Gotta Know"...and we just took it off from there with more and more ideas/ visions coming in...Damn is such a rare breed to find ppl especially musician who thinks the same way u do and we definitely click.. what more with the same program with use for our music- Logic Pro 8!! The studio is amazing nevertheless =P

Well, not to spoil the mood, i would tell ya something about the new track.. As most of you know i lurvee doing collaboration, this would be the first collaboration between me & Yuri. "Acousitc Hip Hop"...probably a new genre or term for this song that i would want it to sound like. It means a blend of Hip Hop beats with very acoustic sounding voicings & chords...hehe

So today in the studios, we were listening to some tracks for inspirations, some of tat tong stuffs and the demo i made yest and of cos with Yuri's personal views & magic on the Logic, the vision of bringing this song further is definitely a potential! woohoo!
